Before Epplett & Co.

In 1968 Preston Epplett began his accounting career at McCulloch Buter and Spence. In 1981 he became a Partner at McCulloch & Menzies (as the firm was then known) and later as the Partner in charge of the Hastings office when the firm used its International Accounting name “Touche Ross”. When the firm withdrew from the International Accounting firm, Preston was one of the founding Partners of Richardson Epplett and Partners.

Epplett & Co. is Born

The desire to strike out and build a firm which reflected his ethos for service and value resulted in the birth of Preston Epplett & Co Ltd in 2002.  This move was well supported by Preston’s clients, 99% of whom transferred to the new firm. Preston was also joined by three long-standing staff members. A feature of the present firm is the number of long standing staff members. Bev Williams has worked with Preston for over 40 years; Michele Philippi since she left school in 1981.

Growth

Angela Williams joined the firm in September 2010 and became a Director/Shareholder in April 2012. In 2010, Sarah, Janine and Michelle also joined the team.

The company name was changed to Epplett & Co. in 2011.

Epplett & Co. has called a few places home. We’ve spent time at the Dominion Building in Queen Street, then a move to Market Street and later to Karamu Road North. Rapid growth continued, resulting in a final move in 2008 to the present location at Eastbourne House. This move out of the CBD has further enhanced the practice’s ability to provide quality service to clients, complemented by the ease of access and good parking.

Future

Sarah (Preston’s daughter) joined the firm in 2010 and has since completed her Chartered Accountant qualification and attended a new practitioners course in 2015. Sarah is part of our succession plan.
